Acer eMachines eM350 Netbook Review (Hands on)

There was a time when Netbooks were a rage and people were crazily after them. Now, even though the same space seems to be taken by Tablets, Netbook still holds a prominent position in the market when it comes to Devices with nearly complete Computer experience. Our Product, the Acer eM350 Netbookfrom the eMachines series just provides what an usual Netbook user would be looking for. Lets get into some details..

Design and Looks

The eM350 is a Typical Netbook with a small size and not high on weight. Its has a complete Matt finish (people generally like Smooth Glossy finishes) on its plastic chassis. Like most Netbooks in the market, it weighs about 1.1 kgs and has 10.1 inch display. Its maximum thickness is 1.5 cms, so not very thick!

It has a 2-in-1 memory card reader (on the Right-hand side, when you face the screen) with a couple of USB 2.0 ports on the other side. One VGA port is given along Headphone and mic jacks. An Ethernet port and the charging slot are present as usual.

As a typical sign of Netbooks, CD/DVD drive is absent!

Usage Experience

The Acer eM350 Netbook is not very fast to work around with but good to use (not very slow too) To give you a rough idea of the Speed, Windows 7 Starter edition boots in 45 seconds (till the Desktop is seen with all Icons)

The Left and Right Click Mouse buttons below the Touchpad are a little hard to press. The Spacing between the keys on the Keyboard is good and typing is pretty comfortable.

When its comes to running heavy applications (as it is not meant to run the ones like Photoshop), the eM350 takes a hit. Multitasking with more than 2 Application is tough and tends to hang the device. We have to mention, watching HD movies is a good experience on this Netbook!
The VGA Webcam with 640 x 480 resolution is good to use and works well in low-light conditions too. The integrated Mic functions excellently!
We found that the eM350 gets heated in about 2 hours which is a downside.

Battery Life

The eM350 from the eMachines series runs perfectly for 3-4 hours when the Battery (3 Cell) is fully charged and we are working only with Spreadsheets, MS Word and other offline softwares. You can surely enjoy a 3.5 hours Bollywood movie (or say 2 Hollywood movies back-to-back) without charging the Device!
When connected to WiFi or TATA Photon, the battery life falls steeply to just about 2.5 hours.
You also have an option to purchase a 6-cell battery additionally!

Price

This Netbook is Priced decently at Rs. 14,265 in the Indian market.

Conclusion

The Acer eM350 is a good netbook for people who want to use the Netbook for what it is really meant to be. If you want to use this Netbook as your Normal Laptop, then you will be dissapointed!
